Welcome to the Dusseldorf 2020 Album.  This was my very first Dusseldorf Grand Slam and I loved it! 

I’ve shot the Paris GS in 2018, 2019 but never did the follow up with the Dusseldorf GS which is always two weeks later.  However, given it’s the Olympic year, (which I won’t be photographing 🙁 ) I decided to fly back for this event and boy, am I a glad I did it!

It was a star studded field with some big names fighting.  I was excited to photograph my favourite judokas including the Abe siblings, Shohei Ono and Changrim An.

The event was held over three days at the ISS Dome, a small arena with 3 mats.  I like 3 mat events as you can pretty much have access to all the action across all the mats sitting around the middle mat with my lenses.

In terms of the equipment for this competition, it was the Canon 1Dxii x 2 paired with the Canon 200mm 2.0L and the Sigma 105mm 1.4 prime lens.  I am so happy with the Sigma 105mm.  An awesome lens and when I get it right, tac sharp action shots!  I also continued with experimenting with the GoPro mounted on my camera while shooting the big fights.  I’ll try to incorporate that into this website.

Also loved the chance to meet some of my friends in person!  Christian Clark and Sven Reddig.  Great to see all the other photographers again as well.
